Brief Information about the ingredients...
The organic virgin coconut oil (Cocos Nucifera) used in Koni Hawaiian creams is
Non-GMO, USDA Certified Organic. NO additives and NO preservatives and is 100% natural
unrefined coconut made from certified organic coconuts grown without pesticides or fertilizers.
It is wet milled then cold-pressed using the water from inside the coconuts.
Virgin coconut oil contains, Capric Acid, Caprylic
Acid, and Lauric Acid. These three fatty acids have strong disinfectant, antioxidant
and anti microbial properties. It protects skin from microbial
infections because it is rich in many proteins and those proteins help keep skin healthy and
rejuvenated. It has been used traditionally for centuries by Pacific Islanders
for medicinal purposes internally and
externally.
Our Shea butter comes from Togo. And is produced from the Karite Shea tree which is only found in the tropics of Africa. The
nuts from the Shea tree are crushed and processed, yielding a
vegetable fat known as shea butter. This process is mostly done by the
women of Africa. The best shea butter is unrefined or virgin - because
it is rich in proteins, vitamins, fatty acids (fatty acids are needed for normal growth and behavior and help with healthy cell
membranes), and minerals and is the purest and most
effective. It is more expensive than refined shea butter
because organic products take more time to process.
Unrefined shea butter and virgin coconut
oil are considered a vegetable oil. Plant oils actually permeate the
outer layer of skin
(epidermis) while other non-plant based oils simply sit on skin’s surface.
Just a note not all shea butters are the same. There is refined and unrefined. Refined, not so good - has been stripped of most of it's
nutrients through a chemical process. Unrefined - good, it's in the most natural form.
The refining process removes the majority of the healing and moisturizing properties. Refined shea butter is extracted from the shea nuts with hexane or other petroleum solvents.
What is HEXANE you ask - It is a toxic chemical produced in a petroleum refinery and is a by-product of gasoline. It is mainly used as a solvent to extract edible oils from seed and vegetable crops like soybeans, peanuts & corn.
A Little More...
Vitamin A (or retinol) is a fat-soluble vitamin that is not present
in the body. Vitamin A balances and normalizes skin helping keep it
clear and healthy, particularly important for dry or sun-exposed skin.
Topical vitamin A makes a real difference in your skin because of its
hydrating properties.
Vitamin F acts as a skin protector, soothing rough, dry or chapped skin on contact.
Vitamin F is fat soluble, composed of two fatty acids. They are linoleic acid and
alpha-linoleic acid. Vitamin F, also known as the omega fatty acids, is extremely beneficial for the skin.
Vitamin-E is naturally in both unrefined shea butter and virgin coconut oil. It is essential for healthy skin growth, repairing the skin, keeping skin smooth and protected,
because of its antioxidant properties, it also gives shea
butter and coconut oil a long shelf life. When applied it will feel
like grains of soft sand, that melt instantly upon skin contact. The vitamins in shea butter helps keep skin moist. It also has antioxidant properties that neutralize free radicals in the body that cause tissue and cellular damage.
Our cornstarch is 100% pure cornstarch made from certified non-genetically modified corn.
Cornstarch is a soothing white powder made from corn it soothes irritated skin.
Cornstarch helps to cut the oiliness and adds silkiness to the natural body
butters. Gluten free.
The Tropical 808 cream (lightly scented) does not
have any artificial coloring or additives in the fragrance oils
used.
Shea butter is not recommended for people with nut or latex allergies.
Even though the percentages are low, it is still better to be
cautious. Sometimes the proteins in the natural products could also
be the cause a rash.
